This Place the Gods Touched Earth: An Anthology of Montana's Poets Laureate 2005–2025
Poetry began spreading its lyrical and percussive power across this land at the very dawn of human time. Its potency lies so deep within us that just listening to poetry can calm anxiety, boost moods, and elevate emotional well-being.
Poetry doesn't contain, it enlivens. And so this anthology can no more contain the diverse and vibrant poetry of our land over time than a word can contain the northern lights. But the work of these eleven Montana Poets Laureate can enliven us in this moment, now, for whatever journey we are on. These eleven were chosen by our state to speak to us with the voice of the land, the rivers, the wind, the stars—and that quiet, persistent voice of poetry itself.
This Place the Gods Touched Earth is a collective radiance of this ancient human art form set down in the Montana landscape.
